For You Tab - Personalised Experience

How Personalisation Works

UK Chart History learns your preferences based on:

  • Tracks you view - Each track you tap on
  • Tracks you play - Songs you listen to (weighted higher)

The app builds a profile of your favourite artists and decades, then recommends similar tracks. The more you use the app, the better the recommendations become.

Recommended for You

This section shows #1 hits that match your preferences. Recommendations are based on:

  • Artists you've explored most
  • Decades you prefer
  • A mix of familiar and new discoveries
Your Stats

Tap "Your Stats" to see your usage statistics:

  • Total tracks viewed
  • Total previews played
  • Artists explored
  • Decades explored
  • Your top artists with play counts
  • Decade preference breakdown

You can also reset all your preferences from this screen.

Discover Tab - Explore Music History

On This Day

See which songs were #1 on today's date throughout history. This updates daily and shows you chart-toppers from the same calendar date across all years in the database.

Tap any entry to view full details and explore more from that era.

Browse by Decade

Explore music by era with decade cards showing:

  • 1950s through 2020s
  • Number of #1 hits in each decade

Tap a decade card to see all #1 hits from that era, sorted by date.

Favourites Tab - Your Collection

Adding Favourites

Save tracks to your favourites in two ways:

  • Tap the heart icon on any track card in the Home tab
  • Tap the heart icon in the toolbar when viewing track details

The heart will fill in red when a track is saved.

Removing Favourites

To remove a track from your favourites, simply tap the filled heart icon again. It will return to an outline, indicating the track has been removed.

Viewing Favourites

The Favourites tab shows all your saved tracks. Tap any track to view details, play it, or access artist information.

Playing Music

Apple Music Integration

UK Chart History integrates with Apple Music for playback. To play tracks:

  1. Ensure you have an active Apple Music subscription
  2. Grant the app permission to access Apple Music when prompted
  3. Tap the red play button on any track card, or tap "Play on Apple Music" in track details

If a track isn't available on Apple Music, you'll see a message explaining why.

Now Playing Bar

When music is playing, a Now Playing bar appears at the bottom of the screen showing:

  • Current track and artist
  • Play/pause button

Tap the bar to control playback.

Sharing

Sharing Track Information

Share track details with friends:

  1. Open track details by tapping a track
  2. Tap the share icon in the toolbar (square with arrow)
  3. Choose how to share (Messages, Email, Social Media, etc.)

The shared text includes the song name, artist, peak position, and year.

What Works Offline

The following features work without an internet connection:

What Requires Internet

These features require an internet connection:

If you're offline, the app will show a banner and allow you to retry when your connection is restored.
